In 429 some 80,000 Vandals crossed the Strait of Gibraltar and settled in North Africa. What puzzles me is that this number isn't challenged at all, althought some historians say 50,000. I'm not a specialist on Ancient maritime history, but I guess it would take months, maybe years to ship so many people and their belongings. So my question is: is there any discussion about the number of Vandals and the way this invasion / migration took place?
