Yay! ::dances::

I DID get the bow...A WEEK EARLY!! and I have no clue how to aim it, but I can manage to hit the bale, even if not the target I'll learn...because it was a struggle to make myself put the thing down, even though I have permanent grooves in my fingers now hehe. Stringing and unstringing WAS a real treat too :lol:Boys in my shop class "helped" and basically ruined two of my projects...

Yet Another Boring Day...

Today I am thankful to be alive. I am thankful for that which the gods have given me. I just wish I didn't have to go to school. School= SSSD^3 :PI still haven't heard from my friend, and I'm a little worried but, hey, no sense worrying. If I had kept up the amount of nervousness I had before, I'd be dead by now.I'm moving to Minnesota in the fall (I might have mentioned it?) and I can't wait. I don't handle cold well so it will be an adjustment, but there are so many good things waiting there for me...I'll just have to bundle up! I *am* in fact getting the bow I wanted. It should be here next Wednesday, although I may need some more things for it before I can actually shoot it (arrow tips for instance-I have no clue if the arrows I ordered come with them.) My friends are all saying they are waiting to get to watch me try to string a bow... apparently they think it will be a complete laugh riot.

The Daily Grind

I've recently discovered a new situation to test my patience. I started entry-level at my unspeakable dayjob... after a promotion to a different position, I've now been 'promoted' to a position managing the 'entry-level' department. I don't think there is a better situation to be able to witness the overwhelming lack of competence and work ethic of the average American male.It actually saddens me to see these guys who bounce from job to job, never grasping the idea of 'earning', unable to use self-discipline to persevere and almost completely focused on clubbing, mislead relationships and drugs. Have there always been this many?

I Take It Back

The upgrade wasn't as smooth as I thought. Apparently, in the old forum version, the post formatting was saved with each post in the database and it does not get updated along with the upgrade. So... I spent a few hours writing and testing a script to go through each post and replace certain pieces of code and HOPEFULLY everything is solved.   Anyone interested in getting the script for their own upgrade can just PM me.

These Dreams...

What goes on when we close our eyes? What are we doing when we think we are asleep? Those knights and dragons, warriors and faraway lands on worlds beond the sun are real. If they aren't real here, physically, they are real only in that they are real to us. What is the significance, to us, of these lands of our dreams? Are they simply an escape from the waking world of biting reality or are they something more? Do our lives of faraway lands only seen in the night through sleeping eyes matter as much to us as do the lives we know, have grown accustomed to? They should. Some cultures believe that when you sleep your soul leaves your body. I do not think this is so for the soul can never leave. But a part of you can, and often does. Are you aware? Do you know? How do dreams affect us, and we don't even know it. Often I wake feeling the pain of wounds gained in dreams. Are they real to me? Yes. I don't know where I go, but I know that it's real. To me at least. For it exists in my own mind, and that space between my ears is space. It's real. They exist somewhere. I exist. Somewhere. Maybe I'm just someone elses dream. Maybe life is a dream, and I will wake. When I do, where will I be? Will I be in the faraway lands that so many dream of? Is this a dream? When I go to sleep at night am I really waking up? It's possible. But how will I know, if I am asleep or awake. How will I know if it's day or night. Is it day? The sun is just rising. Or is that the moon in the land of dreams?

Latin Language Education

As I am now in my second year of Latin and love learning it I become more and more annoyed with the ignorance of the American education system in the way of foreign language. I love learning these old inflected languages, but I have come to realize that I am among the minority of the population who learns such languages. After thinking about this country as a whole its not only the Latin is not being learned by many, but many languages are not being learned. If you go to Europe they speak at least 3 languages, including English. We expect them to learn our language when they come over here, yet we do not know theirs and expect them to speak ours in their native land at times. Should the USA have a stricter foreign language policy instead of the typical 3 years of only one language besides English, or are my ramblings just full of hot air. I welcome any responces no matter if it is positive or negative.

On Sallust And Fame

In The Conspiracy of Catiline Sallust enjoins us about two ways to fame with these words:   " Surely, therefore, it is our intellectual rather than our physical powers that we should use in pursuit of fame. Since only a short span of life has been vouchsafed us, we must make ourselves remembered as long as may be by those who come after us. Wealth and beauty can give only a fleeting and perishable fame, but intellectual excellence is a glorious and everlasting possession"   And then he goes on to point out that in endeavours such as war, both mental and physical powers are equally needed.   But the point I am making is this: It has been proven time and again that wealth, beauty and brawn cannot endure nor make as lasting fame as do intelligence and character (arete if you will).   How much fame would Cleopatra have if she hadn't been intelligent enough to manipulate her way into being the most powerful Pharoah in Egyptian history? Her good looks would mean as much to history as the Cahena's did.   If Caesar had concentrated on war instead of also using his other gifts, history would remember him as much as Suvorov.   Hence that is why I chose the title of this blog to include Conation. To strive, to desire, to inspire to be... more.   To seek, to strive, but never to yield.   (unless there is a double line on the road )

Who Is There To Mourn For Logan?

Chief Logan was a war chief of the Mingo Indians. Despite holding this position, Logan urged his fellow natives not to attack whites settling in the Ohio Country. However, on May 3, 1774, a group of Virginia settlers murdered approximately one dozen Mingos; among them were Logan's mother and sister. Logan demanded that the Mingos and their allies, principally the Shawnee Indians, avenge the deaths of his loved ones. Chief Cornstalk, one of the main leaders of the Shawnees, still called for peace, but Logan ignored him. He conducted raids in western Pennsylvania, killing 13 whites in retaliation for the Mingos' deaths. His attacks resulted in Lord Dunmore

Yay!

Looks like I *AM* going to get the Viper! YAY!!!! :: dances:: I'm actually awake and happy at this moment, which I'm sure will change as soon as I step foot in school On a more serious note, I really hope I hear from my friend soon. Last I heard he was really sick, and I haven't heard from him or his wife in over a week. I was really worried about him, but now I'm not. Somehow I know he's either OK or at peace. I just wish I'd hear from them.

What A Way To Start

I had an allusion to Sallust an a small dicussion of the merits of fame from physical vs mental excellence. But bright boy moi seems to have lost it or this #@!* computer is having connection problems again. Either way, it's late and lost and I'm going to bed to get up at the crack of dawn. Goodnight, and God's love and help to all in need.

Maybe Happy Maybe Sad...anyway I Can't Sleep

I can't stop thinking about that Viper longbow in Cabellas. I hope I do end up with it, and soon, before winter (I don't know of an indoor range around here, and we get alot of snow in Northeastern PA). I may end up with some used thing (I put my Pap on that one...it'll give him something to do) but I WILL HAVE ONE and I will not move to Minnesota next fall untill I do.I should get to bed, because I have school tomorrow (I wish I knew why I was taking two AP courses when I'm not even going to collage...I'm starting to regret that one lol) but I'm really not sleepy, so I guess I'll stay up and work on this some more untill I get tired. Or maybe I'll go play my flute. Staying up may just make sure I'm tired enough tomorrow to get to bed at the proper time.
