Ancient Roman History Audiobooks


You may have noticed when browsing UNRV.com that most of the inner pages have related books available to buy on Amazon.

A good book can provide a wealth of further information on a particular topic. Books can also complement your current thinking, or provide alternative viewpoints to your own which can form the basis of even further research and study. Books are a traditional form of entertainment which have been around for centuries, and show no sign of disappearing anytime soon.

But there are downsides to books:

  • 1) They can be heavy, especially those academic tomes consisting of hundreds of pages. Whilst they may have secondary uses as draught excluders or propping up your PC screen, their bulky nature can make it hard to transport when using them for their intended purpose, i.e. reading them.

  • 2) Kindles share the same problem as printed books for those with poor eyesight or blindness, in that you still need to be able to read the print. Sure e-readers allow you to increase the font size, but you still need to be able to see this, and very large font sizes will result in you having to click the page turn button every few seconds.

  • 3) Are you one of those people whose eyes suddenly get tired and sleepy when you read? This is great if you are reading just before bed and want to fall asleep, but if you are reading a historical non-fiction book or need to concentrate on the text then this is far from ideal.

  • 4) You can't actually do anything else when reading. For some, this will obviously be a good thing and entirely intentional and desirable, but for others it can be a problem. Did you tell your other half tht you would cut the grass before they got home? Are you starving and need to cook lunch but just can't put that fantastic book down?

    Audiobooks are becoming increasingly popular, primarily because they overcome all of the issues listed above! On the move? Simply plug in your earphones and listen on the go. Busy at home? Have them on speaker and keep both hands free to do other tasks. Listening in bed? If you fall asleep just resume playing from where you got to last night. Plus there's no need to keep your partner awake in bed with lights like you would if you were reading a book.
